'Insomniac's Dream', recorded in 2018, is a compelling collection of four long-form pieces laden with deep bass rumbles, dense drones, scattered layers of static and disorientating field recordings, juxtaposing elements of nature with sounds from daily life and other not-quite placeable sources.

A riveting listen that's often dark and unsettling but also strangely inviting, and at times postively overwhelming. Occasionally reminiscent of Lawrence English's exquisite field recording work in places and Eliane Radigue's gorgeous slow shifting drone work at other points, sharing a deep sense of mystery, but with an added menacing, industrial undertone. Headphones are recommended for full immersive listening.

Modelbau is the solo work of Dutch sound artist, Frans de Waard, also one half of Tech Riders alongside Sindre Bjerga (Star Turbine), who together previously graced this label with the excellent 'In A Room'.

"I know Modelbau more from a droney approach where complex delays and tape structures form a repetition of modulations and sounds, “Insomniac’s Dream” has a way more soundscapish approach. Massive layers of deep rumble and backgrounds are pushed into the perspective of the foreground. In contrast, the miniature finesses of everyday life are pushed towards the back, resulting in – what was to be expected – a dreamlike state where it’s hard to tell the reality from the dream. The B-side adds heavily filtered sounds, touching the point of feedback but never tipping the scale, and the closing track dives a bit deeper into subtle noisiness..."
