about

'Brain Pan' compiles material from some three decades of sonic agitation and exploration within the Expose Your Eyes project, taking you on a singular journey through Paul Harrison's personal sound world - traversing F**ked up, heavily-manipulated & saturated field recordings; drifting, minimal dronescapes; clattering percussive
assaults; chaotic noise spasms and nocturnal, ambient keyboard compositions along the way.

For this album, Paul sent me a whole stack of recordings that I then carefully sifted through to select the pieces that would finally be presented here, and I'm really pleased with the results we've achieved.

Go ahead and delve deeper into the vortex for a whirlwind of (un)easy listening.

It will leave you washed up on a distant shore of your consciousness, perspectives altered.

Curious, bizarre and wonderful...

Paul Harrison has been playing around with sound since the mid-1980s. Expose Your Eyes (his longest running project) came into focus in the early 1990s, fell into a lengthy hiatus during the first decade of the new millenium, but re-emerged in prolific form in recent years.

Together with his partner and fellow soundmaker, Candi Nook (see 'Extreme Music From Women'CD, subsequent solo CDRs & involvement with The Shite Girls), he used to run the Fiend Recordings label - and they were both in the infamous, troublesome band of noisers Smell & Quim during the back end of the 90s.

Candi (and quite a few other cohorts) assisted with various E.Y.E. releases over the years, though primarily the project is a lone pursuit. As E.Y.E. and under other monikers, Paul has collaborated and made split releases with many others, including Nocturnal Emissions, Thirdorgan, Lasse Marhaug and Government Alpha.

Paul's other solo incarnations include Paradox Encounter Group, Chapman & Warland Drain and he has lately become involved in a new collaborative project, now going under the name Hair's Abyss.

Emergent Expose Your Eyes sounds, side-projects and a large selection of Fiend Recordings can all be discovered and experienced at xemporium.bandcamp.com

REVIEWS
--------------
"Expose Your Eyes is a noise project in which all the right buttons pushed, literally of course, but it's not the kind of noise that leans on just some mindless distortion that goes for too long... ...there are also bits of processed organ sounds feeding through a line of stomp boxes, mainly some delay and echo, creating some unsettling atmospheric tunes, which he does rather well actually."
FRANS DE WAARD, VITAL WEEKLY 1153
www.vitalweekly.net/1153.html

"This long-form cassette explores harsh, heavy manipulated noise/voice, a myriad of field recordings, slow moving and cavernous drone and ambient works, low-fi voice manipulations via  cut up and  distortion methods, glistening warm synth poems clamored against harsh noise mayhem; the  stylistic shifts throughout the release exposing the listener to a mixtape style of experimental styles."
